Take the edge off: The RoundCorner plugin for SketchUp

Rounding off sharp corners – especially in two directions – has always been a major pain. Multiple Follow Me operations, copying, flipping, moving. Life is simply too short for such tediousness.

Enter the RoundCorner Ruby script by Fredo6. You activate the tool, pick the edges you want to round (or fillet), specify a couple of parameters, and hit Enter. Really great tools are ones that save hours of nitpicky, repetitive work; by this definition, RoundCorner is an all-star.

RoundCorner is a simple tool with a few (sort of) complicated settings. At its simplest, here’s what it does:

Click on an icon in the Round Corner toolbar to activate one of the “modes”: Round, Sharp or Bevel.

Pick the edges you want to round by clicking them. Click again to deselect an edge. You can also click a face to select all of its edges, or a vertex (where endpoints meet) to select its connected edges.

Press Tab on your keyboard to bring up the Parameters dialog box. Enter an offset distance and the number of facets (segments) your new rounded edges should have. Click OK to close the dialog box.

When you’re ready, click somewhere in empty space to run the script.

There are plenty of settings in the toolbar that appears in your modeling window when you activate one of the tools; take a look at the plugin’s handy documentation to see what everything does ( Tools > Fredo6 Collection > RoundCorner > Documentation. )

RoundCorner 2.5a for sketchup

RoundCorner is a free plugin for sketchup and can be applied for personal and commercial application. The sketchup uers can utilize the plugin to make the edges and corners of 3D characters round along a 2D profile in three different ways which range from Round corners, Sharp corners and Bevel.

RoundCorner is compatible with concave corners (always rendered as Round) and non-orthogonal edge faces. Corners contain 2, 3, or more edges.

In order to install the plug in go to Tools menu, select Fredo6 Collection and then RoundCorner.

For having a full installation, just install the SCF PluginStore toward the first step and then install all scripts (latest versions) via the Plugin Store.

Also ensure to install the most updated version of AdditionalPluginFolders (v3.1).

The latest release is RoundCorner 2.5. It is a most important technical release employing the new naming conventions provided by LibFredo6 5.2.

There is no functional changes in RoundCorner 2.5. However, this new version circumvents some problems of security restrictions that were often met with version 2.3.

Hello,

What I wanted to know are there any plugins or a free software that can reduce the number of polygons. For example, a truck/bogie for locomotive would have 100,000 faces. I would want to reduce it by half. the total of faces would be 50,000.

it could be the entire model or just multiple selections on parts of the model that I want them to be reduced to a low number of polygons.
